Sight information of importance to you.

Fixed sight sets are sold by every major sight manufacturer. The front sight height is based on the “average” pistol. What does this mean to you? Well, your pistol may or may not shoot to point of aim with these sets. They will generally be within a few inches at 25 yards, and if that’s close enough for you, they are the most economical choice.

I prefer to use a front sight “blank” that is built too tall, and then machine it to height. Even this is a rather inexact science and comes with no guarantees for absolute perfection…at least from my shop. Here’s why: Everyone “sees” the sights slightly differently and that, along with your grip and ammunition and even lighting conditions, can influence the point of impact. I can sight your pistol in for you, and will be glad to do so. I’m usually within an inch or so for the majority of my clients. The kicker comes when a person wants the sights EXACTLY on for a specific load and distance. The ONLY way to accomplish this is for the shooter himself to determine the front sight height.

In other words, the owner receives his pistol with an over-tall front sight, shoots it with his load at his preferred range, and then lets me know where the bullet is impacting--“I’m 4 inches low at 20 yards.” By using a simple mathematical formula, I can determine the precise amount to machine from the front for correction.

This is by far the best way to deal with night sights. Once the tritium vial is installed, no further adjustments are possible. Therefore the safest way to insure a perfect height is for you to receive the pistol, shoot it, have any needed corrections made, then send just the slide out for vial installation.

Tooltech Gunsight is my first choice for this work. Turn-around is usually only a couple of weeks and the work is perfect. Here’s the contact information for them: http://www.tooltechgunsight.com/ They offer tritium inserts with or without white outlines. If you prefer a white outline, you’ll get a much cleaner look without serrations on the front sight.

REFINISHING

Prep for finish:
Remove tool marks, clean lines & edges, bead blast. Older guns with heavy usage and wear require much more time & will be billed accordingly.

SHIPPING YOUR HANDGUN FOR SERVICE

Pack your pistol securely. I prefer to receive pistols without cases of any kind; wrapping the gun in sheet foam or bubble wrap will keep it safe during transit.

UPS and FedEx both require that handguns be shipped "overnight, adult signature required." To ship through the U.S. Mail, federal law states that you (or the shipper acting on your behalf) must be an FFL holder.

Insure for replacement value.

In order to avoid alerting potential thieves to the presence of a firearm, address your package to:

Bob Rodgers

Mountain Home, AR 72653

Please include a detailed note or completed Spec Sheet with your gun. I also need a firm return address. According to federal law, your pistol must be returned to the address it was sent from. Also, let me know when you ship. If your package does not arrive, then we'll both know it.

PAYMENT

You will receive an e-mailed invoice as the work nears completion; please make sure your address is current. Payment is due upon receipt, and may be remitted in the form of cashier's or personal checks, or money orders. Sorry, I'm unable to accept credit card payments. The invoice will include return shipping and insurance charges.

COMMUNICATION

Communication is a key component in the pistolsmithing process. I prefer to use e-mail, and make every effort to promptly respond to messages. But that system is far from perfect. Over-zealous spam blockers will sometimes eliminate messages, other times they simply disappear into electronic land. If you don't get a response within a couple of days, please don't assume I'm ignoring you; just re-send your e-mail. Still no response? Give me a call. Please remember though, that excessive time on the telephone keeps me away from the bench and completion of projects--maybe yours. Finally, once you receive an e-mail reply, a quick "Got it" note back will let me know that we're on the same page.
