UPDATE:

I have retired as of August, 2023 and will no longer be maintaining an FFL.

I'm always happy to answer questions from former students and clients. This website and email will be in operation until the end of 2023.

Feel free to contact me for my new email address any time before January, 2024.

I'm sorry, but I'm no longer accepting any work.

Welcome to my shop. If you're a first time visitor, come on in, join the gang, and feel free to make yourself at home and have a look around.  My work is constantly evolving as I seek better methods, parts, and refinements to improve my custom pistols. You'll notice I don't offer "pattern" pistols; those are readily available from semi-custom shops. Each pistol I build is distinctive, truly custom, a blending of my experience and abilities based on my client's needs. While I certainly have strong opinions about the workings of a 1911 pistol, I am more than willing to accommodate a shooter's wishes as long as they don't affect function or safety. If your present gun needs smoother action, accuracy or other work, I also offer services like trigger jobs or reliability packages to adjust John Browning's classic design to fit your needs.
A custom 1911 pistol is the result of a melding of parts, often supplied by various vendors. Typical suppliers include Wilson, McCormick, Brown, Kart, Caspian, Novak, Smith & Alexander, Cylinder & Slide, Bar-Sto, and Heinie. It goes without saying that the pistol as a whole can only be as good as its weakest part. For that reason I insist on using the finest components, those that have withstood the test of time. These parts must be fit together to act as a unit that functions reliably and is pleasing to both the hand and the eye.
I confine my work to traditional steel Government and Commander-length single-stack frames in .45 ACP only, suitable for concealed carry, home defense or combat performance. I prefer to work on well-made pistols produced by makers like Colt, Springfield Armory, Kimber, Wilson, Brown, and Baer. When possible, every detail of every gun I build is accomplished by hand. My philosophy on reliability and aesthetics is really pretty simple: You won't get it if I wouldn't carry it. If a pistolsmith doesn't ache just a little when a gun is delivered to a customer, he probably didn't pour enough of himself into it.                                                                                                                       Bob Rodgers, pistolsmith

"In my not so humble opinion...there are less than 10 guys, worldwide, that have elevated custom 1911 work to the next level. Bob Rodgers is on that short list. His attention to detail is only exceeded by his desire to produce the 'best'."
Chuck Rogers
Rogers Precision

"I see lots of guns coming through classes on a continual basis... after a while the trends pointing to a fabulous pistol smith begin to emerge. Bob Rodgers' guns WORK! They are also in a class of their own cosmetically. The attention to detail is stunning--refined, but tasteful. He builds the type of guns that I like.
Randy Cain, Director
Cumberland Tactics Firearms Training
Goodlettsville, TN

"I've had pistols built by some of the best pistolsmiths in the world. Bob Rodgers builds a true fighting 1911 where form follows function and They Work. In my opinion, no one does it better!"
Irv Lehman, Director
Southern Exposure Firearms Training Facility
Lakeland, FL
